Satellite options in Turkey As a company who manages over 100 properties in the Bodrum region, we need to ensure our clients have the best selection of TV channels for for when they and their guests visit their villa or apartment in Turkey. The quest for English satellite channels has hit a rut. The Thor satellite was beaming down a huge range of English speaking channels, but just like the Nile Sat which stopped their huge range in Jun/July, Thor has done the same. The free to air channel have started to disappear over the past months, with only 5 now remaining making Thor a lost cause. The problem is the subscription. As these satellites are not in Turkey you cannot arrange a subscription here. It may be you can arrange it from the UK. Later last year, the D-Smart system changed is free to air services, meaning a minimum of 70TL per year. A monthly channel package starts from about 20TL per month. Having seen many of the options available and as a native English speaker have not been impressed, I continued my quest to find the best satellite system for the English speaker. Forget Turksat, D-Smart, Hotbird, or Nile Sat. Turn to Thor. This is the list of channels that can be received with one satellite dish directed at the Thor satellite. So you want a satellite system for you property / home near Bodrum in Turkey. What are the options available? DSmart DigiTurk Decoder box Sky The  Dsmart system has been the best in my opinion as it has an array of  channels not normally Free to view included in the standard connection. This however has changed, and apparently (if my Turkish serves me right) any system installed before September 2010 will continue to receive the channels from the Turksat satellite. Now DSmart will cost a nominal fee of about 70TL per year instead of being free once you buy the box.What they charge next year, who knows. DigiTurk Starting at 25TL per month with a good array of English speaking channels is a good bet if you live in Turkey but more most are willing to pay for a property available for rental.
